Coach Greg Harris returns for a fifth season calling the defensive signals for the North Greenville Crusaders, after having spent the first eight years of his coaching career at his alma mater – Virginia Military Institute.

While at VMI, Coach Harris served successively as a defensive assistant, outside linebackers coach and finally as Defensive Coordinator, replacing current Crusader Head Coach Jeff Farrington when he departed Lexington for Tigerville in 2013.  Coach Harris coaches the outside linebackers and coordinates the Crusader defense.

During his first year at the helm, the Crusader defense improved in several key defensive statistical categories to include total defense, points allowed, and red zone defense.  The 2015 Crusader defenders ranked 51st out of 168 Division II colleges in total defense, surrendering an average of 351.4 yards per game compared to 399 yards per game in 2014.  Additionally, they ranked 50th in points allowed, allowing an average of 23.9 points per game, down from 25.6 points per game in 2014.  NGU's bend but don’t break defense ranked 45th nationally in red zone defense allowing only 20 touchdowns in 33 opponent possessions inside the Crusader twenty yard line.

Coach Harris is a 1997 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute.  While at VMI he was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter at tight end and on special teams.  He served as a team captain his senior year.  Upon graduation with a degree in Economics and Business, he took a position in private industry.   During his nine years in the industry, he earned a Mark of Excellence Award while employed with Hughes Supply Corporation.

Coach Harris and his wife Lorrie have two children, a son Dakota who is a part-time student at North Greenville University and a daughter Madelyn who is a rising sophomore at Eastside High School in Taylors, SC.
