Crusader Golf Set To Host Cherokee Valley Invitational

The North Greenville Men’s and Women’s golf teams will play host this Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26 of 2013 Cherokee Valley Invitational at Cherokee Valley Golf Club in Travelers Rest, SC.

As the home to Crusader Men’s and Women’s golf programs, Cherokee Valley is a fun, but challenging championship golf course designed by world renowned golf course architect P.B Dye.  The 2013 Cherokee Valley Invitational will be set up as a 6,612 yard par 72 layout for the Men and 5,901 yard layout par 72 for the Women.

The 2013 field is one of the strongest in the past few years of the event.  The women’s side is comprised of a 9 team field including fellow Conference Carolinas member’s Belmont Abbey College, Queens University, Erskine College, Limestone College, and North Greenville University. Also rounding out the field will be fellow NCAA DII regional opponents in Brevard College, Mars Hill College, Young Harris College and NAIA power Trevecca Nazarene University.

The 2013 men’s field will feature 9 teams including Conference Carolinas member Limestone College and North Greenville University, Peach Belt Conference member Young Harris College, South Atlantic Conference member’s Brevard College and Mars Hill College, NJCAA members Tri-County Technical College and Spartanburg Methodist College, and one of the top NAIA programs Faulkner University.

Last year’s 2012 Cherokee Valley Invitational was won by Brevard College (298-300), with the individual title going to Brevard’s Kim Koivu by shooting a tournament record 8-under par (66-70) on the men’s side and on the women’s side by Erskine College (342-324), with the individual title going to Erskine’s Rachel Moore (79-77).

Both Crusader teams are coming into the event off strong finishes the last few weeks. The men are coming off two very solid 4th place finishes in the Richard Rendlemen Invitational and Barton Intercollegiate and the women are coming off a Top 5 finish in the UWG Invitational.

The 2013 Cherokee Valley Invitational will begin Monday March 25 at 9 a.m. of # 1 & # 10 and will conclude Tuesday March 26 with the final round beginning at 9 a.m. with awards presentation following play around 3:30 pm outside the clubhouse.
