Former NGU Great Honored By Alumni Association

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2012, the North Greenville University Alumni Association and President Jimmy Epting honored Robert Durward “Dag” Wilson with a ceremony at Stax Original in Greenville, SC.

Wilson, a founding inductee into the North Greenville University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996, played two years of basketball when the University was known as North Greenville Junior College from 1956-1958.

In his freshman year, Wilson was named to the 1956-57 All-Freshman team after leading the team to a 22-3 overall record. In his final season in red and black, Wilson led his squad to a 23-2 overall record, including Conference and Regional Championships, and a second place ranking in the national standing for junior colleges in the NJCAA National Tournament, while also earning All-American honors.

Following his time at North Greenville, Wilson transferred to nearby Furman University for his final two years of college where he led the Paladins in points, rebounds, field goal percentage and free throw percentage in both years.

Wilson passed away on June 2, 2008 after a brief illness and was survived by his wife of 46 years, Marian Hendrix Wilson and his son Rev. Rhett Hendrix Wilson. Also surviving is his sister, Eva Ann Wilson and his brother, Martin Wilson.
