It is an exciting week on the campus of North Greenville College. Three sports are set to commence their 2005 campaign this weekend. The Crusader football team will play the inaugural game in the brand new Melvin and Dollie Younts Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. against UVA-Wise. The Men's soccer team will play their first game at 4:00 p.m. Friday against Southern Weslyan University. Then on Saturday, the Women's soccer team will play. The Lady Crusaders will face off against Mount Olive College at 11:00 a.m. All soccer games will be played at Pepsi Field in North Greenville College's brand new on-campus athletic complex.
The Crusader volleyball team will travel to Anderson College this weekend for a season-opening tournament. The AC Invitational tournament field will include Anderson College, North Greenville College, Mars Hill College, Fayetteville State, and UNC-Pembroke.
There are many exciting things happening on campus to celebrate the first week of athletic competition and the Grand Opening of the North Greenville College Athletic Complex. Dr. William Mitchell, Executive Director of the Athletic Foundation, will use Wednesday's Chapel service to show appreciation to those who made the dream of an on-campus athletic complex a reality. David Smith, pastor at Enoree Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, SC will speak on "Rise Up and Build" from Nehemiah 2:18. All those people who donated money, time, resources, work, etc. will be recognized.
North Greenville students will get ready for some football on Friday night with a "Cavalier Crush Pep Rally" on the lawn outside the new Tingle Student Center. Student Services will also host a tailgate on Saturday at the Stadium.
Then, at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, there will be a dedication of the stadium and the Athletic Complex. It will be dedicated to the building of Godly and moral character in North Greenville student-athletes.
