North Greenville host annual scholarship golf tournament

TRAVELERS REST, SC- The sun was shining, the breeze blowing, and the azaleas were blooming. It was a beautiful day to hit the links at The Cliffs Valley Golf Club and support North Greenville University athletics.

North Greenville held its annual scholarship golf tournament Tuesday as 123 players came out to play in the captain's choice event. Roy Gilliam won a Chevrolet Aveo after being closest to the pin on the 11th hole. The car was donated by Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet.

North Greenville President Dr. Jimmy Epting's team won the event with the lowest gross score. His team shot an 18-under par 54. Joining Epting were Dr. Joe Hayes, Sr., Dan Wood, and Eddie Shannon.

David Walker, Pete Wilbanks, Allen Cothran, and Tim Arellano won the low net score with a 23-under par 49.

The event annually raises $50,000- $60,000 thousand dollars to provide scholarships to North Greenville University student-athletes.

Major sponsors for this year's tournament were Pepsi, Charter Communications, The Cliffs Communities, Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet, and Focus Golf Systems.
